Second Language In Education

I want to talk about using a foreign language in education.When I came METU, I didn't know that English was used in learning and teaching.It didn't happen too much change for me because I'm in English Language Teaching Department, but I know that so many people are suffering from it.They also came here without knowing the language spoken here and many of them change their schools because of it.I think second language in education is both advantageous and disadvantageous.It is advantageous because as we all know METU is an international university.People come here from all over the world and there is only chance to communicate with them.It is English which is known by most of the people not native.In addition, knowing English terms in your branch provides opportunity to you abroad.Employing you to do your job abroad is easier because your English is very fluent comparing to the people graduated from a university except for Boğaziçi,İTÜ,Hacettepe,Bilkent.However,I said it was disadvantageous because while learning a complicated thing in Turkish is hard, learning it in English is much harder.In the same way, also memorizing is difficult.We sometimes understand something in 3th 4th trials.If it is English, this trial can be 10th times.That's why it is a hard job to choose education in second language or not.People must come here knowing second language is used here because it is a very personal issue.They must decide what they do in the future and they must move on to their expectations.
